The Journey ~ 14 December 2010: Riding the Wave

As I've journaled quite a bit about this, The Journey will be broken into several posts. If you're trying to locate previous entries, they'll be on the sidebar under Labels "The Journey". You can also click Come Along for the Ride on the sidebar to subscribe to posts.

Maybe I spoke too soon about everything going fairly smoothly.  We spent the weekend trying to keep things low key, but we did venture out to Derick’s work Christmas party.  I felt ok at the party, but not great.  Having three little monkeys in tow makes mobility a bit more challenging.  It was a late night, so I spent Sunday relaxing.  We had another appointment on Monday afternoon (12/6).  I was a little concerned that the munchkins hadn’t been their lively selves for the past day or so.  At our appointment, I was a bit on edge, as they didn’t move around as much on the ultrasound either.  Their heart rates and fluid levels were good, but there wasn’t as much activity.  The doctor had me drink some apple juice, then continued to monitor things for a bit.  The babies perked up a little, but all of them didn’t exhibit the practice breathing motions that I guess they start to look for around week 28.

I have to say that this really worried me.  Every report up to this point had always been great.  Although not overly concerned, they asked me to come back on Tuesday for another check (and to make sure I ate right before coming in).  So, a Tuesday morning with some tears, poking around on my belly asking the babies to please start moving, a Noble Romans pan pizza with the works and an order of breadsticks later…the re-check went fine.  Babies were all active and doing their breathing thing.  I was so relieved.

The next day, I went in for my glucose test to see if I was developing gestational diabetes.  Immediately after drinking the sugary orange drink, the babies went bananas and were movin’ and groovin’.  I found out on Friday that my sugar was actually on the low side (even after drinking the drink).  So, no worries for now on the diabetes side.  But, maybe that would explain the lack of activity a few days prior.  Not sure, but now I’m focusing on trying to eat more carbs and eat more overall.  So far, so good.  The babies are their active little selves again and all is well.

Despite the good reports, I’ve been having quite a bit of muscle pain lately, so I’ve been trying to stay off of my feet as much as I can.
