The Journey ~ 27 December: A Little Less Action

30 weeks, 3 days and counting as of today.  We have another appointment this afternoon, so hopefully that will go well.  Things are still getting progressively more difficult as I suspected, so I’m staying off of my feet as much as possible.  I’m basically homebound and am staying in bed except for our trips to the doctor’s office and maybe an hour or so total a day going from point A to point B around the house.  Honestly though, this hasn’t been too bad.  I had started a little list of things I wanted to work on and have been crossing things off in fairly short order.

I’ve been journaling and blogging, updating our Shutterfly photo albums, contemplating baby names, catching up on reading magazines, wrapping Christmas presents (which is a little tricky in bed), working on compiling info for our taxes, selling things on ebay and packing them up to ship out, networking, paying bills, napping, you name it.

My sleep patterns have been pretty messed up lately.  Sleeping is sometimes not easy to start with due to muscle pains, etc.  But, for several days in a row, I would fall asleep, then wake up a few hours later totally wide awake.  Finally, I started just going to the living room w/the laptop or a magazine and working on things for a few hours until exhaustion set in.  After that, I was able to get some rest.  But, this whole game set me up for afternoons of long naps, thus the cycle continued.  At first, I thought the insomnia was due to a new medication I’m taking for acid reflux.  I’ve started taking this in the mornings now in hopes that if this is the culprit, it would remedy itself.  Overall though, I don’t think the medication had a ton to do with it (as insomnia is nowhere in the list of potential side effects).  Luckily last night went better, so hopefully we’re turning a corner.

Week 30 ~ December 24, 2010

Changes in life often bring changes in traditions with holidays, etc.  Although I’m not sure where these changes will lead eventually, we made the decision this year not to go out and about to visit family for Christmas, as I really needed to keep activity as low key as possible.  Thankfully Mom and Dad were more than willing to come to us (with massive amounts of food in tow) for Christmas day.  We had a good day with them and they were nice enough to say that I looked great, although I know I looked like complete crap and was about to fall asleep for part of the afternoon (see Exhibit A above).

Derick’s Mom, Step Dad, Sister and Brother in Law came over yesterday so we could celebrate with them.  After having a good nap on Christmas afternoon and a full night’s sleep for the first time in a few days, I was more alert for their visit.  Derick cooked for everyone and it was delicious.  We were happy to see everyone despite not being able to make our normal holiday rounds.
