Realizing that we probably needed to get in gear on some things, Derick and I packed our hospital bags this weekend so we’re ready to roll quickly if needed. I say that I packed my bag, but really Derick was the gopher for things and I tried my best to cram them all into the bag.
Although I want the babies to cook a little longer, I can’t express how excited I’ll be to wear normal clothes at some point in the future. My closet of old clothes will seem like a whole new wardrobe, as I’m unable to wear 99% of the things in it now. Granted, I’m not out and about much now. However, on most days I am lucky to pull something together that halfway matches. I’ve started raiding Derick’s closet now and am thankful for t shirts and comfy boxer shorts. It’s quite a sight, if I say so myself. Comfort is the key though.
While contemplating things to pack in the hospital bag, it hit me that I’m amassing quite a collection of vitamins and pills to take daily. These will take up probably half of my second bag (filled with stuff to occupy my time in the hospital). Here’s the rundown:
Prenatal Vitamin
Extra Folic Acid
Fish Oil
Extra Calcium
Protonix for acid reflux – which thankfully is working very well
Tums – to supplement Protonix if needed
Extra Iron x 3/day
Colace x 2/day as needed
Extra Strength Tylenol
And, our newest additions to the pharmacy…
Terbutaline for contractions (more on this later)
Tylenol PM for the continuing insomnia issues
My OCD hasn’t prompted me to make a spreadsheet or checklist for all of these just yet. But, I have a little system in place to make sure I don’t forget anything along the way. I haven’t historically been a big vitamin taker, but started the prenatal and fish oil quite awhile back in preparations for a pregnancy.
Since things have gone fairly smoothly so far, I can’t help but wonder if being on those vitamins, coupled with eating better and exercising regularly for many months before we got pregnant has contributed to that.
I will be excited (if I can find time) to get back into a workout routine after the babies arrive. I’m sure just caring for the babies will be a workout in itself. The more healthy eating habits we had in place pre-pregnancy have kind of gone out the window during the past several months. So, that will be more of a transition because I love sweets and all those things that you really need to eat in moderation. We’ll get there though in time.
