I’ve been having insomnia for the past few weeks and it’s driving me crazy. I’ve tried mixing up my nap times, not taking naps, going to bed early, going to bed late, you name it. I was advised to try some Tylenol PM to hopefully help with this. Sometimes my mind is on overdrive, which I’m sure contributes to the insomnia. Other times though, I’m legitimately exhausted. Many of the recent photos show that plain as day. This is so very frustrating at times.
Week 31: December 31, 2010
At yesterday’s check up, things went well, but since we’re moving ever closer to our goal, they checked out a few more things. I was put on a monitor to assess contraction activity. I know I’ve been having contractions, but it’s sometimes hard to know how serious they are. Since it seems like this is one of the big things we need to monitor to assess pre term labor, it has been a little tricky for me.
I guess I expected to feel this huge rush of pain when a contraction hits, but it’s really not like that. In fact, some are very subtle and not really what I’d call painful…just a tightening feeling. The monitor was pretty interesting to me. I was to push a little button each time I felt what I thought was a contraction. I kind of felt like I was on a game show ready for the host to ask me a question so I could buzz in first. The monitor also does a little printout of what’s actually happening for a comparison of sorts. Overall, I did pretty well with identifying the stronger contractions.
Of course though, this test led to another dreaded cervical check. With all of the technology we have in this world, can someone not figure out another way to do this procedure? Derick says that I need to come up with a million dollar idea. I think this is it, but of course I have no clue of how to solve it.
Luckily things had stayed the same as our appointment last week. The cervical length is another thing they are monitoring to assess pre term labor. But, as a result, I was prescribed terbutaline. I’m gathering that this really hasn’t been shown to stop pre term labor, but it’s more of a comfort thing. I’ve only taken one pill and thought I handled it ok…or so I thought…the jury is still out on that.
I’m supposed to take this every four hours as needed, but was warned that I’d probably be shaky and this could cause insomnia. YEAH! Surprisingly, after taking the pill, I felt really tired and slept for a few hours. After that though, I tossed and turned for a bit, so I decided to try the Tylenol PM to hopefully get some more rest.
Not sure this was the best idea. I ended up feeling like I was on speed for about 3 hours in the middle of the night and it kind of freaked me out. So, I need to contemplate what tonight’s plan of action will be. However, I finally did fall asleep and am thankful that I’m a little more well rested and can work on more of my to-do list today.
